Kirshnik Khari Ball (born June 18, 1994), better known by his stage name Takeoff, is an American hip hop recording artist from Lawrenceville, Georgia. He is best known as a member of the hip hop group Migos, along with Quavo and Offset.
Life and career
Takeoff was born June 18, 1994.[1] In 2009, along with Quavo and Offset, he formed the Migos rap group, initially under the name Polo Club.[2] All three members of the group are related and were raised together; Takeoff is Quavo's nephew, and Offset is Quavo's cousin.[2]
The group first started gaining popularity in 2013 with their single "Versace", after it was remixed by Drake.[3] They slowly kept rising in popularity in the following years, with the singles "Hannah Montana", "Fight Night", and "Look At My Dab". They are credited for inventing the "dab" dance.[4]
In 2016, after releasing an EP titled 3 Way and a few singles, Migos released "Bad and Boujee" featuring Lil Uzi Vert. The song would soon become an internet phenomenon, spawning a variety of memes, and soon making the hit single peak at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Migos' most succesful song to date.[5] Takeoff's absence from the single has spawned controversy. Takeoff himself has stated however that he was simply busy, and thus could not participate in the recording.[6] More controversy was created however, when during the 2017 BET Awards, Complex's Everyday Struggle was interviewing Migos, resulting in a lot of internet memes regarding Takeoff's answer to a question about his absence from the song, and the inabillity of the interviewers to hear him properly.[7][8][9]
On January 27, 2017, Migos released their second studio album Culture, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 with 131,000 equivalent-album units on its first week of release.[10] The group has anounced that they're planning to release a follow up titled Culture 2 within the same year.[11]
