A bidet is a plumbing fixture used for personal cleansing that utilizes a stream of water to clean the body in place of toilet paper after using the toilet. In past, getting a bidet meant installing a completely new unit in the bathroom. Modern electronically operated bidets are no longer standalone units, but now most of them attach directly to a regular toilet. This allows for seamless integration between the toilet and the bidet so that they can be used together. Today's modern bidets are electronically controlled with much more flexibility in terms of what they offer, hence the term electronic bidet.

History

The bidet concept was originally developed during 19th century, but the "bidet" term is actually older. The word bidet was used in 15th century France to refer to the pet ponies that French royalty kept.[1] The reason the device was called a bidet is because the seating method resembled sitting on a pet pony. Over time, the classic bidet evolved significantly, becoming more of a cleaning method. It began to parallel the same heightened sense of hygiene and sanitation of the modern world. Over the span of several decades, the bidet concept has become one that is welcomed in many homes, and not necessarily looked at as an odd device.

Benefits

Using an electronic bidet is beneficial in many ways when it comes to increased hygiene and eco-friendliness. Some of the benefits of using an electronic bidet are listed below:

  1. With auto wash electronic bidets, the cleaning is hands free therefore more hygienic. With many of the models, you do not need to touch or wipe yourself at all, because there is a built in warm air dryer
  2. Helps in alleviating discomfort associated with constipation.
  3. Provides soothing and comfort to mothers before and after natural child birth.
  4. Provides a fast and effective way for seniors to stay clean.
  5. Electronic bidets reduce water usage by 75% compared to mugs or faucets. They also eliminate the need for toilet paper which makes it an eco-friendly solution.
  6. The most advanced electronic bidets include a power saving function, which is designed to calculate when the bidet is used the most frequently during the day, and turns off when not in use, leading to maximum energy savings.
  7. With the deodorizer function, electronic bidets help get rid of odor after using the washroom
