Jayanti Patnaik M.A. (born 1932) is an Indian Parliamentarian and renowned social worker.[1]
Early life and education
She is born in 1932 at Aska, Ganjam district of Orissa. Her father is Niranjan Patnaik. She was educated at Harihar High School, Aska. She has studied Master of Arts (M.A.) in Social Work from Sailabala Women's College under Utkal University, Cuttak. She pursued advanced studied in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.[1]
She married politician Janaki Ballabh Patnaik in 1953, who later remained Chief Minister of Odisha (1980–89), and the couple had one son and two daughters.
Career
She was elected for the first time to the 7th Lok Sabha from Cuttack constituency, Orissa in the by-elections held in 1980 after her husband Janaki Ballabh Patnaik. She was reelected for second time to the 8th Lok Sabha in 1984.
She was President of All India Mahila Congress from 1988 to 1990 and Chairperson of National Commission for Women from 1992 to 1995.
She was Member of Rajya Sabha in 1996 and treasurer of Congress Parliamentary Party.[1]
She was elected again for third time to 12th Lok Sabha from Berhampur constituency in 1998 as a member of Indian National Congress.
