A stair rod is a stick, generally made of metal such as brass or iron, and sometimes ornate, that holds a stair carpet against a staircase. It fits at the internal angle between a stair riser and a treader to prevent the carpet shifting. It is not attached to the stair carpet but clamps it more or less tightly.

In the United Kingdom, the word is also sometimes used as a metaphor for heavy rain.
