Hi... I am not sure this is the right page to respond, but I wrote the original Vachel Lindsay article. I have material to back up comments... but honestly this is the first time that I have written something that has been critiqued in this way... so I would welcome some guidance of what you are actually suggesting that we add here. Much has been written on Lindsay; it just struck me as amazing that nobody had written on him here. Regarding the quotation of the poems, I can give the citations. Regarding the racism allegations, I tried to hit a balance between those critics who have lambasted Lindsay for racism with those who, like me, feel he was fairly enlightened for his time and was a fine poet. If I erred here, help me in cleaning this up.

As a professor, I tried to tone down the scholarly aspect of my usual writing... that said, if I toned it down so much that this has become unacceptable as material, I would be happy to modify it. I simply need some direction that is a bit clearer than "Every single part of it qualifies as original research"... In short, what DOES qualify as reliable source material... I can provide this to whatever extent and in whichever format the wiki editors suggest.

Well, I am not saying its OR, it just appears that way because the source information is too ambiguous. Add some inline citations and that will go a long way toward fixing the problem I think. I know what I put up is kind of vague I will try to do a more thorough review later today or tonight. : ) See Wikipedia:Reliable sources too. I am sure you have reliable souces to back up everything in that section and like I said I didn't mean that it was original research but as is now it would qualify just because of the amibibuity of the sources. That's all. See Springfield, Illinois to check out the clean up there. This isn't a bad article just one that needs to be documented better.A mcmurray 17:24, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are no active tasks for this page

Started this cleanup list at 01:43, 23 February 2007 (UTC). Add to it. Move stuff around. Cross it off. Post regular talk messages below as before.

  • Cleanup: Section 'The Congo'. This section is problematic. Every single part of it qualifies as original research if we don't get citations from reliable sources.
  • Cleanup: General tasks, copy edit, format, making sure article conforms to the Manual of Style.
  • Cleanup: Eliminate external links from the body.
  • Cleanup: The list of works is unnecessary and unencyclopedic, condense to prose and pare down.
  • Citations: Just about everything needs to be verified, no sources have been provided so it's real legwork. Provide inline citations as sources are found.
  • Images: Surely we can get a free use image somewhere. Since he is dead, if we cannot find a free-use image, fair use would probably apply.

You ask for a free use image. One of the more well-known portraits of VL can be found at

The page also has a link to other images that may enhance the page. I suppose they are available for fair use. The person who has posted them on that site has also given his e-mail address if you want to make sure.
