Armita Geravand[1] (Persian: آرمیتا گراوند born 2 April 2006[2][3]) is an Iranian girl who fell into a coma in Tehran Metro on 1 October 2023 when she was 16 years old.[4] Human rights activists claim that she had a physical confrontation with the Iranian morality police for not having compulsory hijab.[5][6][7] She is currently held in ICU of an Army hospital [8] and slipped into coma due to intracranial hemorrhage.[9] On 22 October 2023 the Iranian state media announced that she was declared brain dead.[10]

This incident has been called the new Mahsa Amini[4] and the German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock has called this incident "unbearable".[4][8]

Islamic republic of Iran authorities have denied any physical altercations with her[8] but her family has been publicly threatened[4] and her mother has been arrested.[11] Iranian government has called this incident "an internal affair".[12]
