The 1998-99 NBA season was the 53rd season of the National Basketball Association. Due to a lockout in a labor dispute, the season didn't start until [[February 5th 1999]] after a new six year contract was approved by nba players and owners. All 29 teams played a shortened 50 game regular season schedule, and the 16 teams who qualified for the playoffs played a full post-season schedule. Some teams did not even play each other at all and many played each other only once. The season ended with the San Antonio Spurs winning the franchise's first NBA championship, beating the New York Knicks 4 games to 1 in the [[1999 NBA Finals]] on June 25th. Before the season commenced there were 2 exhibition games; one home & one on the road.

All 29 teams played a shortened 50 game regular season schedule, and the 16 teams who qualified for the playoffs played a full post-season schedule. The season ended with the San Antonio Spurs winning the franchise's first NBA championship, beating the New York Knicks 4 games to 1 in the 1999 NBA Finals on June 25th.

Notable Occurances

  • The NBA and the Players Association reached an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement on January 18, 1999.
  • The All-Star Game was not held this year due to the league's lockout.
