Tokyo Mew Mew

Mint is introduced very early in the manga, after Ichigo Momomiya accidentally falls on Masaya Aoyama. She hands Ichigo a handkerchief, but acts rather rude to Ichigo, as she gives a sneer as she leaves. Masaya mentions that the handkerchief is made from recycled fibers, which Masaya greatly appreciated. Mint is then seen talking to Ichigo about her love for Masaya, saying they're both more interesting than the displays. Ichigo then gives her a short-lived nickname "sarcasm girl".

A little later on, they hear Lettuce Midorikawa being bullied by three girls from Okumura Daifuzuku Junior High, who are yelling at Lettuce for bringing hot coffee, though they asked for coffee, which means they possibly did that to be mean to her. Ichigo goes to help her, but Pudding Fong gets there first, annoying the girls, suscessfully stopping the three girls from hurting Lettuce. Mint doesn't do anything except watch, with Ichigo, as it appears Pudding is doing okay. One of the girls is about to throw coffee at Puuding, but Zakuro holds her arm in a rather painful position. Mint appears to be mesmerized by Zakuro Fujiwara, as she is saying she wants to be like her, not listening to what Ichigo said.

Later on, Masaya asks Ichigo to go with him to return Mint's handkerchief to her. Ichigo takes this as an opportunity to see if Mint is a Mew Mew and follows Masaya to Mint's house. While Masaya talks to her about where she got her handkerchief, Ichigo is going around Mint, trying to find where her Mew Mark is. Mint gets very annoyed telling her she is very odd and weird, acting appropriately rude.

Ichigo sees Masha, who gives her a ticket to where Mint is performing ballet. Ryou Shirogane, as a hologram confirms, that Mint is a Mew Mew. Ichigo goes to Mint's room after she done performing to see if she has a Mew Mark, but Mint catches her calling her a stalker, questioning her as to why she's been following her. Mint calls for her dog Mickey, who is revealed be turned into a Chimera Anima. Ichigo transforms and is about to attack Mickey, but Mint tells Ichigo not to hurt Mickey. Ichigo then gets slammed into a wall by Mickey. Mint can't believe what's she's seeing and begins to cry, then Mickey attacks her, ripping the back of her dress and revealing her Mew Mark. Ichigo tells her she can transform, but Mint is too shocked by what is going on and says she couldn't, but then transforms into Mew Mint. They both work together, and drive the jellyfish-like parasite out of Mickey. Ichigo then says that they will make a great team, but Mint says she wants nothing to do with her.

Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode

While Ichigo is in London with Masaya, the rest of the Mews are left to fight the Chimera Animas. Mint first appears early in the first volume, where she is complaining about having too much work since Ichigo left.

Mint was among the Mew Mews who met Berry Shirayuki in her Mew Mew form. She and the other three Mew Mews move to her school so the whole group could be together if an enemy shows up.

Later, the Saint Rose Crusaders brainwash the people to believe that Berry was the evil Mew Mew, ruining Tokyo Mew Mew. However, Mint and the others stood by her side. In the end, their enemy turned good and the people were no longer brainwashed.

Anime

Tokyo Mew Mew

Mint first appears in episode two, titled "Atarashii Nakama! Seigi no Mikata wa Chou-Ojousama Nyan!" meaning "A New Comrade! Justice Lies in a Real Lady nyan!" Ichigo first encounters Mint on the street when Mickey runs through a puddle and jumps on her. After Mint apologizes for the dog and leaves, Ichigo goes to Mint's house to look for a Chimera Anima.

Later, Mint's dog, Mickey, transforms into a Chimera Anima and Ichigo transforms and tries to fight the Chimera Anima but is slammed into the wall. Mint calls for Ichigo not to hurt Mickey, just as the creature rips the back of Mint's dress open, revealing a Mew mark. Masha spits out a locket and Mint transforms, driving the alien out of Mickey's body. Later, Mint is told to work at Cafe Mew Mew, which is the headquarters for the Mew Mew project, and Ichigo tries to become friends with her, but Mint refuses to work with her. However, just like the manga, she later becomes good friends with her and ends up saving the world from the aliens with the other Mew Mews.

Mew Mew Power

Corina also appears in the second episode of the anime, but it is called, "Mew Two" (which may be a reference to the Pokémon Mewtwo, as Pokemon was dubbed by the same company, 4Kids) instead. In the dubbed version, there are a couple of differences and additions, but it is relatively the same. For instance, the first and last part of Mint's transformation are omitted and her lines are changed. However, her story and character are kept pretty much the same, except that she is 16 instead of 13.

Personality

Mint can be mean, lazy, and snobbish at times and she is very sarcastic. One of the only people Mint is nice to is Zakuro Fujiwara, as she admires Zakuro very much. Her favorite thing in the world is her pet dog Mickey, whom she really cares for. Mint enjoys having her afternoon tea and rarely helps out at the cafe. Although Mint may seem like a snob, she really is empathetic, brave and a nice person and cares about her friends. Her feelings are very important to her and can easily be hurt.

Family

Mint's family is rich, living in a mansion. Her mother and father are almost never home, and her grandmother has to look after her.

She has a brother named 藍沢誓司 Aizawa Seiji who appeared in episode nine, and not in the manga. He is older, and more serious then Mint. He doesn't spend much time with her, because he has to deal with some important and difficult things, like business. Because of this, he once called Mint "lucky", because she only does ballet. The Mews met him in the episode, but he didn't pay much attention, due to him being busy. When Mint was to perform ballet, she wanted Seiji to come, but he was busy again and couldn't attend, even the Mews tried to persuade him. However, he appeared after Mint's performance and gave her flowers to show he still cares for her.

Romanization

In the Japanese version of the manga, Mint's name is written in katakana and hiragana. When she is in Mew form, her name is written in katakana, and when she is "normal", her name is written in hiragana. This was most likely done so that she can hide her identity as Mew Mint, and for emphasis, as it is common to write Japanese words in katakana. Due to the difference being different writing systems, this was omitted in the English version of the manga, as English has only one writing system. Because of this, fans who have only seen the English version could find it odd how no one found out her identity.

Profile

  • Name Translation: "みんと Minto"=Mint (romanization of "mint"), "藍 Ai"=Indigo (not to be confused with 愛 ai), "沢 zawa"=Creek/Valley
  • Name Pronunciation: Meen-to (similar to the word mentos) Ahee-zah-wah
  • Alias: Mew Mint (ミュウ・ミント Myuu Minto)
  • Signature color: Blue
  • Age: 12-13. She ages during the series (16 years old in Mew Mew Mew power).
  • Birthday: October 3rd
  • Grade: 7th (10th in Mew Mew Power)
  • Zodiac Sign: Libra
  • Height: 4 feet 7 inches
  • Weight: 85 pounds
  • Blood Type: B
  • Hair Color: Very dark blue, near black (Cerulean blue in Mew form)
  • Eye Color: Brown (Cerulean blue in Mew form)
  • Likes: Afternoon teas, reading, being around Zakuro Fujiwara, dancing.
  • Favorite foods: French foods, tea.
  • Least favorite foods: Anything "ordinary" (fast foods etc.)
  • Skills: fairly good at ballet
  • BMI: 18.5
  • Mew Mark: A pair of bird wings on her back, colored blue (pink in the anime)
  • Transformation saying: "Mew Mew Mint, Metamorphosis!" in Tokyo Mew Mew, "Power Pendant, Activate!" in the premiere episode of Mew Mew Power "Power Pendant, Mewtamorphosis!" in later episodes, and "Mew Mina, metamorfosi!" (Mew Mina, metamorphosis!) in Mew Mew: Amiche Vincenti.
  • Animal: Ultramarine Lorikeet (called Tahitian Lory in the Finnish version)
  • Love interest: Although Mint is a huge fan of Zakuro and is seen many times snuggling up to Zakuro's arm, it does not seem to be because of love, maybe admiration possibly due to Zakuro's high social status, although in one episode where Zakuro betrays the Mew Mews, Mint is forced to fight her, and shouts "I loved you! I really loved you!" to Zakuro. However, this is most likely a sisterly or platonic love, due to cultural differences between Japan and America. But she does look up to her a lot, is a bit obsessed with her, and wants to be like her. Mint has no sure love interest in the manga and anime.

Weapons and abilities

File:Minto 6.jpg
Mew Mint, using her "Mint Arrow", or "Mintoon Arrow".

Mint's DNA is infused with that of an Ultramarine Lorikeet so upon transforming, she sprouts blue bird wings and a tail. With these, she can fly. In the anime, she can communicate with birds and, when she feels great sorrow, withstand the strongest winds.

Tokyo Mew Mew

  • Weapon: Mintoon Arrow (ミントーン・アロー Mintoun Arou)
  • Attack: Reborn Mint Echo (リボーン・ミント・エコー Riboun Minto Ekou)

  • Weapon (manga only): Mew Aqua Rod (ミュウ・アクア・ロッド Myuu Akua Roddo)
  • Attack (manga only): Reborn Aqua Drop (リボーン・アクア・ドロップ Riboun Akua Doroppu)

  • Weapon: Mintoon Arrow
  • Attack: Mew power extension!
this attack is only used in volume seven with Lettuce, Pudding, and Zakuro to give time for Ichigo to battle Deep Blue.

"Reborn" was incorrectly translated as "Ribbon" in the English version of the manga. In the Japanese manga it was written as リボーン riboun, which is "reborn". But, to an English native speaker, it roughly looks like "ribbon", so Tokyopop assumed it was "ribbon" which is seen throughout the entire manga series. However, many fans still call it "ribbon," as do fansubs and fandubs, as a vast mojority of fans do not know the correct translation.

"Ribbon" was to be used only once, the Tokyo Mew Mew fanchise; the opening song of the anime, sang by Rika Komatsu, which sounds very different from リボーン riboun. リボン ribon was never to be present in the manga, but the English version of the manga has "ribbon" present.

File:Ribbon tmm opening.jpg
A screenshot of the opening song of the Japanese version showing Rika Komatsu sings リボン ribon, not リボーン riboun.

リボン ribon and リボーン riboun do look similar, with the only difference being a dash between ボ bo and ン n, called a chōon, used in katakana. The chōon represents the length of the a vowel, which is very important in determining the meaning of a word, regardless of a words looking similar. Many non-Japanese fans who have seen the Japanese version of the manga and the anime most likely either didn't know that the chōon is important in determining the meaning of a word, or knew but didn't catch this.

The pun on Mint's weapon name is somewhat strange. The "Mintoon" part is written like her name (ミント, Minto), but with a dash (indicates a long vowel in katakana) and a single ン n sound added onto the end, which is ミントーン. Like the rest of the Mew's weapons (except for Berry's), Mint's weapon name appears to be a pun made by combining two English words, although the other word that is combined with "mint" does not appear apparent as the other weapons, though the other word combined with "mint" could possibly be "tone".
  • Weapon: None
  • Attack: Mint Travail
Used by Mint in episode nine, she repeatedly uses ballerina leaps to kick the Chimera Anima in the shins

Mew Mew Power

  • Weapon: Heart Arrow (mistakenly referred to as "Mint Arrow" in the 4Kids Market section of 4Kids's official website)
  • Attack: none (sometimes called Heart Arrow)

Mew Mew: Amiche Vincenti

  • Weapon: Fiocco di Mina (Mina's ribbon).
  • Attack: Fiocco d'azione (Ribbon of action)
