The '''Directorate General of Coastal Safety''' (DGCS, {{lang-tr|Kıyı Emniyeti Genel Müdürlüğü}}, KEGM) has been established by the [[Politics of Turkey|Turkish Republic Council Of Ministers]]’ decision on 12 May 1997 as a General Directorate and State owned Organization.<ref name="kiyi">{{cite web|url=http://www.kiyiemniyeti.gov.tr/default.aspx?pid=20|title=Directorate General of Coastal Safety|accessdate=18 April 2013|language=Turkish}}</ref> The mission of the foundation is to assist and improve the safety of navigation in [[Turkey|Turkish]] Waters.
The organization’s core competences are:

==History==
It was the first time to establish a lighthouse within the Turkish coasts in 1856’s. After the signing of franchise agreement at that time made between Ottoman State and French, lighthouse services were managed under the name of “General Management of Lighthouses Administration” and then Lighthouses Administration was purchased by the Government by resolution 3302 and assigned to Denizbank on 01.01.1938.<ref name="kiyi"/>

It has been abolished from Denizbank on 30 June 1939 by resolution 3633 and assigned to the General Directorate of State Ports and Maritime Lines Administration.<ref name="kiyi"/>

Upon abolishing of General Management of State Ports by resolution of 4517 and charging to the Directorate General of State Ports and Maritime Lines Administration, Coastal Safety Administration was assigned to this institution called Lighthouses and Lifesaving.<ref name="kiyi"/>

General Directorate of State Maritime Lines Administration was abolished on 1.3.1966 by resolution 5842 and assigned to the Maritime Bank T.A.O and identified as an Administration managed by the Bank mentioned.<ref name="kiyi"/>

Maritime Bank T.A.O was started to be called as TUDEK (Turkish Maritime Institution) on 10.10.1983 by the Council of Ministers with resolution 2680 dated 17.6.1983 and this banking became a separate General Directorate as a tied partnership .<ref name="kiyi"/>

Turkish Maritime Institution became TDI( Turkish Maritime Administrations) by decree law 233 dated 8.6.1984 and Shipyards were aggregated in a different General Management.<ref name="kiyi"/>

General Directorate of Coastal Safety and Salvage Administrations, that all AtoN, salvage and lifeboat services being aggregated under the same structure, was established by the cabinet decision of 97/9466 dated 12.5.1997 and has become a separate General Directorate.<ref name="kiyi"/>

There are currently 507 ATON's including 417 lighthouses with different type and specifications in our Turkish coasts.<ref name="kiyi"/>

===Salvage and Rescue===
Rescue services of DGCS are well organized within Turkish Straits by having 15 well equipped Rescue Stations. ( 8 of them are Boat Stations and 7 of them are Shore Based Rescue Stations)<ref name="kiyi"/>

Professional Rescue Teams wathckeep at the stations for 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. They listen to the sectors' VHF channel of the Turkish Straits Vessel Traffic Service together with the VHF channel 16 using VHF DSC in Turkish Straits.<ref name="kiyi"/>

13 SAR boats (10 of them are high speed), 5 (RHIB) rigged hull inflatable boats and 15 vehicles to be able to transport of the main equipment Whip and Breeches Buoy of shore based rescue stations are deployed in 15 rescue stations in both Black Sea approaches of Turkish Straits and in Turkish Straits.<ref name="kiyi"/>

Rescue services are performed in two different types as shore based and at sea by boat.<ref name="kiyi"/>

Shore based rescue services are performed for the vessels grounded as drifting to shore with mentioned vehicles by sending line with rockets for whip and breeches buoy equipments when the causality occurs.<ref name="kiyi"/>

Life saving operation in vicinity of offshore is performed by 10 high speed rescue boats (30 knots) having the capability of self-righting and self-floating, and by 3 SAR boats (12 konts) and 5 RHIBs (35-40 knots).<ref name="kiyi"/>

Salvage Department of DGCS has fulfilled the services of tugs, underwater works, salvage&towage with 2 conventional salvage vessels, 4 Fi-Fi class-1 tugs, 11 Firefighting tugs and various type service boats which make up to 25 vessels. Additionally, our project is to include 2 Fi-Fi Class-2 tugs in our fleet in the near future.<ref name="kiyi"/>

DGCS has the capability of responding marine oilspills during salvage operation or in case of any emergency situation to respond to the marine oilspills.<ref name="kiyi"/>

Turkish Straits Vessel Traffic Services (TSVTS) are to be rendered up to now from at the end of 2003 in the interest area –called Turkish Straits- and equipped with 13 observation Towers. Each Observation Towers has X band radar, Monocolor - Color-Infrared Camera and Network Equipment . A few Towers has extra, meteorological Stations and communications equipments.<ref name="kiyi"/>

Aids to Navigational Services organized along the Turkish coast are to be rendered with 417 lighthouses, 34 light-buoys, 19 marking buoys, 15 fog whistles, 2 fog bell and 3 beacon 9 racon equipments.<ref name="kiyi"/>

It obviates the need of Marine Communication of Turkish and foreign flagged vessel in all over the world seas by using different frequency bands as telephone, telex and telegraph. It has short/middle/long frequency, DSC and Navtex stations. Conducting Distress, Search and Rescue, Navtex and Routine Radio Telephone and Radi Telex communications by; Remote controlled VHF/MF/HF/ Navtex coastal stations.<ref name="kiyi"/>

The ferry terminal building was constructed as part of the Port of Smyrna along with the quay and the breakwater by the French company Guiffray after projects of British engineers between 1867 and 1886.<ref name="i"/><ref name="gyg"/> It was used as a checkpoint for international sea traffic. It took its name from its function as passport control site.<ref name="ibb"/> A historic postcard featuring the building names it as the "Débarcadère et Bureau de Passeports" (Wharf and Passport Office).<ref name="h1"/>

The 1884-established passenger ferry line company, the "Gulf of Smyrna Ottoman Ferries Hamidiyye Inc.", operated Pasaport Ferry Terminal in the past connecting it with the ferry terminals Karşıyaka, Alaybey, Osmanzade, Turan, Bayraklı, Konak, Karataş, Salhane and Göztepe with a flotilla of eight passenger ferry boats.<ref name="i"/> The company's head office was also in the building.<ref name="dh"/><ref name="h1"/>

In 1922, the [[Great Fire of Smyrna]], which began four days after the Turkish troops recaptured the city on September 9 that ended the [[Greco-Turkish War (1919–22)]], destroyed the building along with much of the port city. The building remained a ruin for some years.<ref name="gyg"/><ref name="ibb"/><ref name="dh"/><ref name="h1"/>

Redesigned in inspiration of [[Seljuk architecture|Seljuk]]-[[Ottoman architecture|Ottoman]] architectural style of the [[Architecture of Turkey#1920s to early 1930s: First national architectural movement|First National Architectural Movement]], it was rebuilt in the office time of [[Kâzım Dirik]], who was appointed governor of the city in 1926.<ref name="i"/><ref name="ibb"/><ref name="dh"/><ref name="h1"/>

In 1948, the building became headquarters of the Customs Guard Command. From 1957 on, it hosted the Customs Guard Directorate following the reorganization of the Customs Administration.<ref name="gyg"/>

I realised on the first occasion that you deleted my update was because I posted a link to my book, I won't do that again. I then put a link to an article by David Conn (The page already has one other article referenced to DC). Everything else I posted is actual fact, all taken from Spanish/English newspaper articles that I scanned during my research for the biography of DB (The Man from Uruguay). I am not sure how I can reference all the facts if I cannot reference the book that contain them all? I did not vandalize the page on Anthony Quinn, I was adding in his correct family history. I was also adding sources from public records, but putting in holding place for the citation as I needed to upload the documents because I wanted them to show all the truth. It was the person who put that the Quinn ancestry was from Cork, Ireland that vandalized the page, because it is an untruth.

Do not worry, I will not do anything more with Wikipedia as I see that you are not interested in truth from documents, only hearsay.

I have checked the editing history of that page and yes, that person is adding information from story books of Various writers (Not Scholars) but not from the authentic texts of Sanatana Dharma like the Puranas, Upanishads as well as the Vedas. That too, is biased information because he is just considering the Vaishnava Scriptures and not Shaiva Scriptures or any other authentic text.

Sanatana Dharma is a broad religion. People cannot make conclusions just based on a single text.And if users like MRRaja001 will continue to add their biased (and not complete) conclusions on Wikipedia, this will ruin the image of Sanatana Dharma as Wikipedia is a global platform and millions of people read articles on it.
